Cocaine is a powerful addictive  fine, white powder which can be snorted, dissolved in water and even injected.

Cocaine is illegal.However, cocaine can be used medically. In the U.S, it is prescribed as a solution for local mucosal anesthesia, and for some eye, ear and throat surgeries. Well, it is infrequently used because there are safer alternatives like Lidococaine.

Adding synthetic opioids to cocaine is especially risky when people using cocaine don’t realize it contains this dangerous additive. Increasing numbers of overdose deaths among cocaine users might be related to this tampered cocaine.

How do people use cocaine?

There are several ways in which people take it some

of the various ways or most popular ways are through their nose by snorting ,

or they rub it into their gums. Others dissolve it and inject it into their bloodstream while some inject the combination of cocaine and heroin called a speedball.

also,one method  is to smoke cocaine that has been turn to a rock crystal . Thus, the crystal is heated to produce vapors that are inhaled into the lungs. This form of cocaine is called Crack, which refers to the crackling sound of the rock as it’s heated.

Effects of cocaine intake(health wise)

1) In the heart
Some physical effects are: constricted blood vessels, dilated pupils, increased temperature, heart rate and blood pressure. It can also lead to health complications like:
– disturbances in heart rhythm
– headaches
– chest pains
– respiratory failure
– strokes
– stomach pain and nausea
– heart attacks
– seizures

Also, it is taken in seaways so it produces several adverse reactions like:
Snorting the power can lead to loss of the sense of smell, nose bleeds, difficulties in swallowing and chronic runny nose.

Ingesting it can cause severe bowel gangrene due ton reduced blood flow.
Injecting the illicit drug can cause severe allergic reactions.

It is a very addictive drug. It’s long term effects of use can lead to tolerance, high doses or the need for more frequent use to attain the same level

of pleasure during the initial period of use.

Since it also has the ability to reduce appetite, many addicted users  and to be malnourished.

The abuse it can also lead to acute heart emergencies like irregular heart rhythm, heart attack or stroke which may of course lead to sudden death.

Deaths often arose as a result of cardiac arrest (heart attack) or seizure followed by respiratory arrest(breath stopped).

Other symptoms of cocaine overdose include:

difficultly in breathing
high blood pressure
Increasing  body temperature
•hallucinations and even
• anxiety.

2) Effects of cocaine on pregnant women

Also, based on research there are about 750,000 cocaine-exposed pregnancies yearly. It is disadvantageous to both mother and child,thus In the mother it can lead to:
– serious high blood pressure
– spontaneous miscarriages
Pregnant women who abuse coke tend to have addictive habits like nicotine and alcohol use.
Also, infants born to women who use the drug during pregnancy may be born

prematurely, have low birth rates, may have smaller head circumference and they tend to be shorter in length.

Long term effects on the kids is that it may lead to deficits in cognitive abilities,

information processing, memory and inability to complete tasks in childhood.
